Jenna + Adam | La Jolla, CA Destination Wedding
When Tommy and I got engaged in December 2006, there was one thing we both knew immediately … we wanted to have a destination wedding. We had no clue where or when we’d exchange our vows (it actually ended up being two years ago today June 26, 2009 on the shores of Akumal, Mexico *woot woot*), but we knew for sure that we wanted to get married on a beautiful beach … in front of our closest family and friends. And when we finally did tie the knot, it was the perfect wedding in our eyes … it was our dream destination wedding.
When Jenna + Adam drove from Arizona to Southern California for their engagement session back in March, they told us they opted to have their wedding ceremony in La Jolla because they wanted it to be a small intimate affair along the beach — far different from the desert surroundings back at home where they would have a much larger and formal reception a few days later. And while I had already adored this bride based off our email exchanges, hearing her utter similar hopes for a small beach wedding (like myself back in 2006), it resonated a connection with this couple. And in that instant I knew, that we would be a part of a really special celebration …
Tommy and spent two days with this wonderful family in La Jolla, getting to know each one of them while also photographing all the fun-filled festivities during the Rehearsal + Rehearsal Dinner and the of course, the Wedding Day.
This wonderful wedding reminded me a lot of my own wedding, because it was a celebration made real through a total family effort … Jenna’s incredible mom Jill helped coordinate and deliver all the precious details, and Jenna’s awesome sisters Candiss + Tifffani made sure she was picture perfect …
Tommy and I always love being able to capture the raw emotions when the sweethearts send surprise gifts to each other during the preparations …
Such a gorgeous bride don’t you think? When I took these photos I admit, I started to tear up and get a little emotional. Our brides are always so breathtakingly beautiful …
And let’s not forget about the handsome groom and his entourage …
And here are a few more images of how this intimate celebration at the Scripps Seaside Forum in LA Jolla unfolded …
I don’t think I’ll ever get over the moment when the couple first lays eyes on each other. It never fails to remind me of the beauty of love.
At one point while I was snapping shots of the three sisters, Jenna’s mom said to me, “Aren’t I lucky to have these three?” And while I totally agree, I think all these women are lucky to have each other … each of them incredibly strong, funny, caring and sweet. And obviously, really beautiful 😉
(And yes Internet, your eyes do not deceive you, this is the same wedding dress but Jenna’s mom made it so the bottom half was detachable just for these beach photos!!! How cool is that??)
Jenna + Adam,we hope when you look at these photographs that they make you smile and remind you of the overwhelming amount of love and joy that surrounded you that day. It was a beautiful day showered with warm rays of sunshine, the joyful laughter of your dearest family and friends, and of course your love … a love that Adam knew was inevitable from the first time he met you … a love that took Jenna some time to realize, but finally said yes to after Adam’s persistence 😉 … but most of all, a love that is meant to last. Because really, you two are perfect for each other …
Oh and on a bit of a selfish note, one of the things I REALLY loved about this couple is that they made sure to set aside plenty of time for us to take photographs of them. They were up for anything, there was no rush and of course we ran with it 😉
Once again, heartfelt thanks to Jenna + Adam and all of your wonderful family and friends for being so warm and hospitable to Tommy and I during the two day celebration. We adore each and every single one of you and we’re completely determined to make a trip to AZ one of these days to enjoy Grandma’s sweets and more good times with you all. And of course, whenever you make another So Cal visit, please make sure to let us know. We love you guys!! *hugs*
