When Tommy proposed to me back in 2006, it was just an ordinary old Friday night. It happened over dinner at our favorite Chinese restaurant, Happy House, and I remember when he got down on one knee in the middle of dinner, I was in shock. It was surreal and what was became an even more *mindblown* moment was when he told me to call and tell my family the news and all of a sudden I was bombarded from behind by my family, his family and some of our closest friends. You see, he had them hiding in partitioned off room of the restaurant, where everyone laid in wait ready to celebrate our new engagement. It was a beautiful night 🙂

Since our love affair with photography began in 2010, we have had the honor of being photographers for so many amazingly special moments … incredible weddings, festive family reunions, heartwarming military homecomings, a family bringing their baby home for the first time — you name it, we have been there to capture every beautiful moment with grateful smiles behind our cameras and hearts often overwhelmed by the magnitude of the moment. But there are a few things still on my bucket list that I’m praying I’ll one day have the chance to photograph. And just yesterday, I gleefully put a checkmark next to one of them — a surprise marriage proposal .. on a gorgeous stretch of beach .. on one of the most picture perfect days … on Valentine’s Day (it’s like Cupid was my best friend for the day and he gave me everything I wanted!!!). Oh and as for the couple, well … THEY. WERE. BEAUTIFUL. Times 100 …

About 10 years ago, Tony asked Amber out for the first time near this stretch of Huntington Beach, and on this Valentine’s Day the two shared a sweet little picnic complete with chocolate covered strawberries and a heart-shaped plate that said “You’ve stolen my heart.” And while they couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to spend at the beach, Amber had no clue that after being together for so long, this was the day Tony was going to tell her his heart was hers to keep with an engagement ring that his grandmother had worn, and then passed onto his mother. And now the ring was being given to her with a promise to grow old together. And of course, Amber said yes.

Tony + Amber, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for letting us share in this special moment in your relationship. We honestly could not think of a better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than being there to capture your love, your joy and the beginning of this new phase in your lives! Congratulations and best wishes for many more blissful days together filled with smiles in the sunshine, and perfect sunsets to seal your love 🙂
