Since becoming a photographer, the way I look at life has changed dramatically. I’ve learned to appreciate the smallest things and find beauty in everything — the dew that clusters stop leaves on chilly mornings, the way a sunset creates a perfect halo above my baby girl’s crown and the way I see love in its many forms. I find love in the smallest gestures … a touch, a smile, the twinkle in a person’s eye. It is all these little details that collectively create a vision.
But being a photographer also means when I close my eyes, my visions run wild. I imagine beautiful places and people I’d love to photograph. I dream of moments I’d love to document between two people in love. And I imagine times of bliss I’d love to freeze in a photo for a family to cherish for a lifetime. My mind is constantly whirling through images of inspiration while my heart is eagerly hoping I can make these visions come true.
One of the dream sessions I’ve held close to my heart for quite some time is the opportunity to photograph an impeccably dressed couple in a gorgeous space — with textured walls and wide open fields — just because. So when Lisa + Jesse, whose wedding we photographed about three years ago, said they wanted to do a special anniversary session with us — I knew there was a good chance my vision could come true. But I had no idea, it would turn out even better than I could hope for … these two were simply magic.
THE LOCATION: MISSION SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO
When planning Lisa and Jesse’s anniversary session, I could not think of a more beautiful place to shoot their photos than San Juan Capistrano, a city that has the most amazing landscape and such gorgeous light. So we began their session at the Mission San Juan Capistrano, where the incredible brick and stone architecture, sweeping arches and colorful blooming gardens provided the perfect backdrop to compliment their elegant attire.
When I created an inspiration board for their session, I immediately knew I wanted to implement lovely flower accents into their photographs. Fortunately, I had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with the super talented Jessica Wrasman of Floral Designs by Jessica Wrasman who helped make made my vision come true — and then some times 100. She carefully crafted the most exquisite floral details for Lisa + Jesse …
After just a few clicks, Tommy and I were convinced, these two looked like they should be in a Dolce & Gabbana print ad. Oh many thanks to hair/makeup stylist Lucy of Beauty by Lucy Han who created a beautiful look for Lisa for these photos. I have to admit, I did a whole lot of excited squealing during their session 😀 But can you blame me? They are both gorgeous, super stylish and just so so stunning together …
Tender moments between two people who adore each other will never ever get old … What is better than dancing and laughing with the one you love?I absolutely love the intricate details of Lisa’s silver beaded Adrianna Papell gown and Jesse’s classic Calvin Klein suit. And the rich hues from the bouquet and succulent boutonniere add the perfect pops of color to their silver and dark blue color pallette. Lisa made one special request during our session — to duplicate a shot we took of them on their Wedding Day, when Jesse was kissing her shoulder. Three years later, the moment is just as sweet. This original piece of the mission is so majestic and grand ~ photos just don’t do this corner of the grounds justice, it is truly a breathtaking space.
Seriously guys, it’s really not fair that you guys look like this … but since you do, thank you for letting me be your photographer 🙂
THE LOCATION: NORTHWEST OPEN SPACE IN SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA
After exploring the Mission grounds with these two sweethearts, we headed over to a nearby field to capture a few shots before the sun set along the mountainside. With the shift to more natural setting, Lisa slipped into a beautiful flowy white dress and donned a gorgeous floral crown, also made by Jessica. She was picture perfect …
Another wonderful designer/artist who contributed to this anniversary session was Joanna of Wink and Wonder, who lent her talents to letter a portion of their wedding vows in a rich marsala tones — a beautiful keepsake to remember their special day. And this is one of my favorite photos of all time … simple, sweet and the epitome of romance …Another one of my favorite frames … love is a beautiful thing …
Seriously though, these two are just perfect together …
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Lisa + Jesse for spending the afternoon with us and helping make this beautiful vision of mine come true. You are truly one of our favorite couples and we hope these photos will always remind you of the special love you share for each other. Happy Anniversary once again *hugs* to you both!!!
